Sunday, July 11th-Part 2

I didn't take many pictures yesterday at all.  Two of them are Jia with our guide, Candy.  She has helped us communicate with Jia about how she is doing and has been a good guide for us.  The last one is of the girls and I riding the dragon boat at the park near the summer palace.  It was crowded and no one was too happy, can you tell?
For dinner yesterday we ended up eating at Kentucky Fried Chicken.  It was OK but still different from our KFC back home.  We did have drinks with ice!  You normally cannot have the ice here because you cannot drink the water but our guide assured us that KFC has American standards, so it was a treat to get a really cold drink.  Lillie Mei fell asleep in the stroller on the way to dinner so she slept from 6 p.m. last night and she just woke up at 5:30 this morning.
When we got to back to the room Jia took a bath.  She has tiny bumps on her face that we think are from the soap.  Our guide told us that they do not usually use soap on the children's skin.  She has obviously been taught how to take a very fast shower because as soon as you put her in and get her wet she begins scrubbing her hair, then her face, and then her body.  Because we use shampoo she has been scrubbing her hair and everything else with the shampoo.  Last night Kirk didn't use anything but water and we hope that will help the rash.
After her bath, Jia promptly climbed in the stroller and sat there until she fell asleep.  She is obviously avoiding the bed because it makes her be still and she begins thinking about missing her life at the oprhanage.  It works so we are going with it.  Since we didn't attempt the nap yesterday we had a tear free day!
Today we will spend all morning and part of the afternoon in appointments.  We will go to the Civil Affairs office again to pick up the adoption record.  We have to proofread it and then wait for the formal document to be made.  After that we have to take it to notary's office for notarization.  Finally we go to apply for her passport at the police station (I think).  Please pray for patience today as keeping two pre-schoolers happy for that long will be difficult.  I will be packing lots of snacks and the leapsters!
Love you all!

I am so glad you have a good guide. That can make a big difference with communticating with your child. I pray the ice does not make you sick. we were told the same thing with Pizza Hut, and we all got deathly sick. Thank goodness for Cipro.
